the Polymer Injection Technology

In 2016 we implemented the Polymer Injection Technology in the meltshop, developed at University of New South Wales, Australia.

The scope is to inject a mix of rubber granulate and coke into the EAF in order to replace the parts of the coke consumption. The effect is reduced energy consumption at the EAF, decreased total volume of additives, decreased CO2 emissions and decreased emissions of dioxins.

The rubber granulate comes from recycled tires and we aim to inject close to 1600 ton rubber granulate per year. This is equal to almost 118 000 tires per year.

One of our main focus areas to be more sustainable, is to practice circular economic in every step of our value chain. We therefore practice circular economic in many ways – one way – to use by-product as “ raw material “.
